Big Plans Academy

Naming our school....

Many homeschools create a name for their school.  I knew I wanted to do this after seeing several homeschooling blogs and talking to friends who are homeschooling.  We decided to name our school after something Josh has told the kids every night for the last 4 years when he tucks them into bed.  He will hold out their hands wide and tell them that God has BIG PLANS, and a BIG PURPOSE, BIG HOPE, and a BIG LIFE bound up in their little hearts.  So came the name Big Plans Academy.  We know that God has BIG PLANS for the kids and us as we start this journey of homeschooling and for the rest of our lives.

Our Curriculum....

Our Curriculum for this year (2012-2013) is pretty simple.  We are focusing on getting a solid foundation of reading and math this year.
For Rachel we are using:

  •  The Hands On Bible
  •  We Choose Virtues
  •  A Reason For Handwriting
  •  Math U See
  • All About Reading
  • K4 & Letter of the Week Curriculum from Confessionsofahomeschooler.com
  • Unit Studies as we learn about science, social studies, art, cooking and more
For Isaiah we are using:

  •  Letter of the Week Curriculum from Confessionsofahomeschooler.com
  • K4 Curriculum from Confessionsofahomeschooler.com
  • Unit Studies as we learn about science, social studies, art, cooking and more.
  • We Choose Virtues
  • Hands on Bible

Our Classroom...

We have been using various parts of our home for our classroom.  We mostly use our School/Toy room, the kitchen table, and any clear floor space that Malachi will not invade.

Classroom:
 Calendar
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Coconut Tree- Every week we read the book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and then we put up our letter of the week on the tree.
 Calendar Wall & Alphabet posters
Flag, Shape, Color and Number Posters

 Book Shelf
Educational Posters from Answers In Genesis Magazine and art projects hanging on top.
Same wall as above.  More Answers In Genesis Magazine posters, art projects and our Alphabet Center.

Book shelves that separate the school/toy room and our office.  Shelves hold toys, books and letter of the week binders.

Work boxes....this is where I put the kid's "Jobs" (activities).
When the kid's are done with their job they take the number off the work box and put it on their sheet.  Then they go to the job on the next drawer.  This keeps them on track.
