First Month of School

Rachel's 1st Day of Kindergarten
Isaiah's 1st Day of Pre-K

We have enjoyed our first month of school!  We started out our school year doing 'ABC' activities that went along with the book "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom".
We also explored what a coconut looks, feels, sounds, smells and tastes like.  Rachel, Isaiah, Rebekah and Daddy all liked the taste of the coconut. Mommy did not.

They were so excited to do this.

Draining the Water
There was 3 cups of water in that little coconut

Our coconut broke into 5 pieces

The next 4 weeks we explored the ocean.  We studied the octopus, dolphins, whales, and sharks.  We were able to go on a field trip to our local Sea Life Aquarium during this unit.  It was a "Homeschooling Day" there and we were able to dissect a squid.
Gloves on...just waiting to see what all these cool tools are for.

The instructor helped them cut open the squid. (I was holding on to Malachi) They didn't want to touch it.

At the end Isaiah got brave and touched it.  Rachel never did touch it.

Rachel and Isaiah were unsure of this at first, but did enjoy seeing the different parts of squid (especially the suction cups, since we were talking about octopus that week) and writing there names with the ink that was inside.  Here are some other activities we did during this unit.

We ended this unit with our first family vacation to San Diego, CA.  There we saw what we had been learning about when we went to Sea World and the ocean/beach. Isaiah was able to touch a dolphin and all the kids were amazed at how big a Killer Whale actually is.  They did not like getting wet by Shamu even though they wanted to sit in the "Soak Zone."
